Apple iOS 18

Apple's latest operating system updates, iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, are packed with new features and enhancements designed to improve user experience across their devices. Talented Recruitment Group take a look at some of the key new features.

iOS 18 Advanced AI Integration

iOS 18 introduces significant advancements in artificial intelligence. Siri has been revamped with a new interface featuring a glowing ring and now integrates with OpenAI’s ChatGPT for more complex queries. This partnership allows Siri to offer deeper insights and assist with tasks ranging from creating content to providing detailed product knowledge.

Customisation and Usability Enhancements

The Home Screen in iOS 18 offers new customisation options, allowing users to rearrange apps and widgets more freely. This includes the ability to place app icons and widgets anywhere, creating gaps and more personalised layouts. Additionally, the Control Center has been redesigned for better accessibility and customisation, including options to add quick actions from third-party apps and the ability to split the Control Center into multiple screens.

Improved Messaging and Connectivity

The Messages app now supports scheduling texts, reacting with any emoji, and enhanced text effects. Notably, iOS 18 will transition from SMS/MMS to Rich Communication Services (RCS), improving messaging experiences between iPhone and Android users. This update will include features like read receipts, typing indicators, and the ability to send high-quality images and videos.

Photos and Media

The Photos app has been overhauled to merge the Library and For You tabs, focusing on showcasing the best photos and memories. The new Collections feature organises photos by themes such as trips and people, making it easier to find and enjoy your favourite moments. Live Photos and videos now autoplay as you browse, and a new carousel view highlights your best content.

Enhanced Security and Privacy

Apple continues to prioritise user privacy with several new features. Apps can now be locked with Face ID or Touch ID, and there’s an option to hide apps from the Home Screen, making them accessible only through authentication. Additionally, users can grant apps access to select contacts rather than the entire contact list.

Upgrades to Maps and Navigation

Apple Maps now includes topographic maps and detailed trail networks for all U.S. national parks. Users can save hikes for offline access and create custom walking and hiking routes, enhancing outdoor navigation and exploration.

Gaming and Performance

A new Game Mode minimises background activity to maximise gaming performance, ensuring smoother gameplay and reduced latency for game controllers and AirPods. Personalised Spatial Audio for gaming enhances the immersive experience.

Financial Features

Apple Pay introduces more flexibility with the ability to redeem rewards and access instalment plans directly through the app. The Tap to Cash feature allows users to transfer money between iPhones without sharing personal information.

Enhanced App Functionality

The new Passwords app consolidates all password management features into one place, supporting iCloud Keychain logins, Wi-Fi passwords, and verification codes. This app is available across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Windows PCs, simplifying secure access to your accounts.

These are just some of the key features TRG have highlighted and reflect Apple’s commitment to enhancing user experience, privacy, and device functionality for users. We’re avid Apple fans and are excited to see these new features roll out to our devices over the coming weeks and months.
